A Sneak Peak Into The 2017 Austin Design Week

The time has come. It's... here!! dun dun duuuun

The announcement that you, the creatives, have been oh-so patiently waiting for is finally here. And, I get the honor to amp up the anticipation for the 2017 Austin Design Week!

If this gif of Jonah Hill doesn’t make you totally excited, I don’t think anything will.

Ok, moving along… This year’s ADW occurs November 6-10th. This design-packed week consists of 60 different events to get your creative juices flowing, including workshops, studio tours, evening speaker series, and other special events, such as a walking tour and roundtable discussions.

You'll be able to see the whole schedule here. Here are a few highlights we're particularly excited about.

METALWORK AUSTIN (studio tour)

Date/Time: Nov. 6 | 2-4p

Metalwork Austin is a custom metal fabrication shop that focuses their metalwork on architecture, metal art, and furniture. During this event, you will have the opportunity to tour their warehouse and explore the plasma cutting and welding. And yes, there will be snacks -- but even better, at the end of the tour, they will be giving away a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) cut item creating during your tour.

DESIGNING PARENTHOOD (workshop)

Date/Time: Nov. 6 | 8:30-10a

Pro Mama, a company dedicated to connecting mothers to job opportunities, is hosting a workshop to connect parents - and designers, of course - in an interactive discussion over how a career in design can compliment, rather than deter, one’s parenting and child care skills.

DESIGN & AI: Defining Design's Place in the midst of Intelligent Machines (workshop)

Date/Time: Nov. 9 | 12-1:30p

In this workshop, catch Jannis Jegenwald, design strategist at Atlassian, examine the prominent impact that software design and artificial intelligence has on the design world. What I think is particularly cool about this event, is that the question: "are human designers better than machines?" is pondered.

DESIGN INSTITUE FOR HEALTH (studio tour)

Date/Time: Nov. 7 | 2-4p

This collaboration between Dell Medical School and the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas — an event specific to a design approach in the academic health environment. Attendees will obtain further insight into Health System Design, as they get to tour the Design Institute located in the new building in the Dell Medical School.
